Portland Friends of Green Streets (FrOGS) is a project to advocate, share information and resources for the construction of storm water swales on our city streets. Swales provide the important service of diverting runoff from the municipal sewage system while slowing traffic and providing aesthetic interest in neighborhoods.
A team of Portland State University Community Development students created Friends of Green Streets in partnership with the Portland Community Watershed Stewardship Program — an office within the Bureau of Environmental Services. While students and city employees are providing some initial assistance, it is hoped that Friends of Green Streets will be a completely citizen-owned and driven group.
